Run a node
Be part of the network
A node needs a connection and a power socket, nothing more. It forwards traffic it can’t read, keeps encrypted mailboxes for people who are offline, and earns for the work it can prove it did.
Hardware
| Device | Notes |
|---|---|
| Old or unused phone | The best way to run a node, and the most profitable: you already own it, so there’s nothing to buy and what it earns is yours from day one. Leave it on Wi-Fi and plugged in, with khensu.nu open in node mode. An iPhone 15 Pro on 2 Gbit fibre over Wi-Fi 6E, sharing half, carries about 3,400 people a day. |
| Your laptop or desktop | Runs a node in the background while you work, using 50% or less of its idle processing power, on a Mac today. |
| Raspberry Pi 5 | A small, quiet computer that uses about as much power as a light bulb. On gigabit fibre, sharing half its connection, it carries about 1,700 people a day. |
Connection
Fibre, cable, 5G home internet or satellite internet. A node on satellite internet is a full node. Where there’s no internet at all, nodes nearby reach each other directly.
